Playa Santiago is where to be if you like a warm sunny climate, good fish restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere. Even in winter the daytime maximum rarely goes below 20ºC in Santiago with typical winter nightime minimum at around 15ºC.

The town is known for its relaxed atmosphere and easy going lifestyle. You feel you are going back in time when you arrive from a large European town or city.

Most of the restaurants are along the sea front which is also where people go for the evening stroll, passing the children as they play in the plaza. During the day it is fun to eat barbecued sardines in one of the beach bars by La Laguna.

There is a small selection of clothes shops, supermarkets, souvenir and general stores and a lovely patisserie where everything is baked on the premises. This is by the Medical Centre where you can be attended free of charge using your European health card. There is also a 'farmacia' petrol station and post office.

Santiago's beach is mainly pebbly with patches of volcanic sand and a cool, clean sea. Water temperatures range between 18ºC in winter and 25ºC in summer. Nearby, there are a further three bays where people go swimming and snorkelling.

There is a dive school based in the Hotel Tecina, a 10 minute walk from Bellavista, and Tecina Golf, Gomera's only golf course is a 15 minute walk away. Bicycles and kayaks can be hired with escorted tours arranged and walkers are wells catered for here with some of the best walks of the island in the beautiful Barranco de Santiago.

From Playa Santiago you can take the Garajonay Expres ferry to Valle Gran Rey, San Sebastian and Los Cristianos in Tenerife. The local bus service can take you to San Sebastian, Alajero, the Garajonay National Park and Valle Gran Rey.

Gomera airport is five minutes away by car with twice daily flights to Tenerife North and Gran Canaria airports.
